New Posts from Before Covid Sent Us All Home... Starting with Faux-Stained Glass (1-3 grades)

So, as you all know, Covid sent us home mid-March of 2020. I never did post anything on here from that school year because I was posting the blog directly to the school's website. However, I am taking some time this summer to add some projects that I think were pretty great... for posterity. I will not post them all on this entry, but will start with one here and work my way through my photo files as I go.

Kandinsky Sights & Sounds!

One of my favorite lessons do to at the beginning of the school year for kinders or first graders is based on the processes and artworks of Wassily Kandinsky. I talk to the children about Kandinsky and his sensory condition (called synesthesia - a mix-up of sensory processes - Kandinsky saw shapes and colors when he heard varying sounds). We look at some of his paintings and discuss the various lines, shapes, and colors that we see, and the children talk about what these elements make them think of.

Directed Drawing Turkeys!

I really never do directed drawing lessons, but we were done with our unit and I didn't want to start anything new before the thanksgiving holiday week, so I looked up some turkey drawing lessons and found this one to do with my first graders. They drew directly with Sharpies so that they couldn't erase or have to retrace their lines then used oil pastels to color them in. They loved it and their drawings came out so great! Thanks to Art Projects for Kids for posting!
