Focus on Red

So focused, I love it!

Well, another school year has started and I had my first preschool art class of the year this morning. This month's focus at the "lambies" is the color red and circles - a fact that just happen to be a coincidence when planning my process art activity for today - a happy coincidence, that is!

Ooey Gooey Paint - process art at its best!

Now that I'm thinking along those lines, we will focus on the color and shape of the month for one of the projects we do each month, while the other weeks will be less specific.

That being said, the lambies had a blast working with all things red today. I gave them:

  • large red construction paper (12x18")
  • circles, squares, rectangles and triangles cut out of various red scrapbook papers
  • red foam shapes
  • red markers
  • red washi tape
  • red polka dotted tissue paper
  • white glue and brushes
  • red glitter tempera paint (washable)

To begin I simply showed them how to glue things onto their papers using the brush and glue, and let them go for it! They worked really focused for quite a while, asking for more of this or that, placing shapes carefully on their papers, or just seeing where things landed depending on their age and personality. Once the first child decided he was finished, I whipped out the magical red glitter paint to add another layer to the experience and keep them engaged. The oohs and aahs just kept coming!

The joy is apparent!

Here are just a few of the wonderful results:

Stay tuned for next week's process art adventure!
