Music is in the Air! The Lambies Make Instruments

November was "music month" at the Lambies. I found two great instrument projects online that I was inspired by and decided to do with the lambies. The first one was jingle bell sticks:

For this project I bought wood dowels, bells, and colored duct tape. I chose brown because I liked that it felt like a color from nature. I already had a bunch of colorful pony beads and plenty of pipe cleaners.

This project required a lot of teacher assembly. The lambies part was to choose four pipe cleaners in any colors, 8 bells, and some beads. They worked on their fine motor skills to thread the pipe cleaners through the bells and beads.

Once that was finished, it was "teacher time". With the the help of the regular teachers we twisted the pipe cleaners together, wrapped them tightly around the dowels, and then finished it all off with some duct tape to make sure it all stayed together.

The lambies had a blast running around and making lots of jingly music with these beautiful and colorful instruments!

The other instrument we made was shakers. Each lambie had a clear plastic water bottle. They worked on more fine motor skills by putting lots of differently shaped and colorful beads in their bottles.

When that was finished they chose yarn for the the streamers and the teachers got to work on assembling their shakers. It was great watching them run around and play with these, pretending they were all sorts of different things or even just carrying them under an arm while the played with other toys. The lambies had a blast with all the music they were making!
