Our Lambie V-Day project was a big hit this year! The children got to paint on wood boards, mix red and white paints to make different kinds of pinks, glue on positive and negative space paper hearts, take a photo with colorful flowers, add tissue paper circles, frame their faces with pink yarn, and add details with gold tempera paint. They had a blast using all these materials and exploring their little hearts out!
Here's what we needed for this project:
- 12 x 12 inch balsa wood sheets - I drilled two holes at the top for stringing yarn through to hang them.
- red and white tempera paint - I used 3 different reds I had.
- paper hearts made with a paper puncher in a variety of pink colors - I also cut out the negative space hearts for them to use.
- white glue
- yarn in several pink colors
- tissue paper circles in a variety of colors (or any shape you like, I had these laying around).
- gold tempera paint
- photos of children holding a bouquet of flowers.
I brought this colorful bouquet from the local grocery store. They loved it! |
So the lambies, as usual, were given the materials and not a whole lot of instruction. The first day I put out the paints and paper hearts, allowing the lambies to mix the colors in the bowls themselves. This is a great process of discovery for them as they watch the colors change because of their own actions of stirring.
These kids were so engaged - painting on a wood surface was a new experience for them - and using the colorful pinks and hearts was so sweet.
This is a new lambie and her first art class with me. She was very interested in what the brush and paint were doing to the wood surface. |
As usual, this little lambie goes for it! |
I love how this little lambie found a yellow circle lying around somewhere from a previous art project and added it to her painting. |
The second day we added the photos, yarn dunked in glue for framing them, tissue paper circles, and some gold paint details.
Here are some of the finished beauties:
This was a great project that the children loved making and also the parents will love the results!
