Lambies "Plant" Mini-Gardens

Spring is in high gear this week at the Lambies, so I decided to provide the materials for them to plant their own personal mini-gardens!

First, I set up the table with supplies:
  • styrofoam disks from the floral section at the dollar store
  • "fake" flowers from the dollar store, cut apart so each stem has only one flower
  • assorted pipe cleaner
  • pony beads (I had a bag of yellow that I used)
  • glue for dipping the stems in before sticking them into the strofoam
Next, the lambies all sat down to listen to me read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle.

This book follows the story of a seed that travels far and wide and meets with potential disaster...

Some seeds get stuck in the snow.

... yet survives landing in the right place in time to bloom in the spring as a giant flower.

After we read the story the lambies set to work planting the flowers in their styrofoam gardens, adding pipe cleaners and beads, and then finally painting their white disks with a variety of green tempura paint mixtures.
"Planting" a garden.

Mixing the green paint for the grass.
These two little lambies worked together - so sweet!

Painting the grass...

Look at mine!

They turned out so beautiful and the lambies were so proud of their creations!
